Journal for Open Cart

Journal is an advanced and multi-purpose theme that actually lays on top of Open Cart.  It allows you to manipulate the theme of your online store without having to be a designer. It is responsive design which means that your store will automatically resize perfectly for viewing on a desktop, a tablet or a mobile phone.  There are more than 2000 editable options in Journal so it allows you to have the ultimate control of how your store looks and how you are able to present it to customers.  It can be simple and clean or as complex and colorful as you want it to be.

Your blog will sit on your website which greatly improves your SEO because every post is building content.  It allows you to create popup modules with any content and you can place them on any page which gives you the freedom you need to be able to capture customer information.  There are many, many benefits to this theme you just have to learn how to use them.  It is fairly simple to implement any of the features you would like but as with anything, there will be a learning curve.  The good news is we’re here to help.  You just have to be patient and willing to experiment a little to determine what you want and what will work the best for your customers.

We’ve created a demo site that shows you some of the options and some shortcut instructions on how to create what you see.  You need to remember though that Journal has 10 different skins – meaning the base layout can be configured in these 10 different ways and then you can customize each skin to look the way you want.  This is where those 2000 editable options come in.

You will be taught about different aspects of Journal in different steps.  For instance, setting up your category menus is covered in the store admin step but creating a pop up to capture leads is taught in the marketing step.  We want to ensure though that you can easily find the information you need after your consulting time is expired so we have put all of the Journal information in this one section for easy access.  This way you don't have to remember which step it is attached to.  In each step when something is covered on Journal, we will refer you to the proper section in the Journal folder.

It is important to remember that Journal has so many options that it will be impossible to cover everything in a consultation.  While it may seem daunting at first, it really is very easy to use.  Once you learn how to do a couple of things, everything else is pretty much done in the same way.  Where it gets overwhelming is in the sheer number of things that you can do with this framework.

We will strive to show you as many possibilities as possible.  We’ll tell you which ones we believe are important and why.  We’ll also tell you the things that we don’t think you should worry about now and things you should always be cautious of.  We’ll tell you which things are best left for later down the road.  The big thing with this is to grasp an understanding of how Journal works with OpenCart and what you do where.  Utilizing Journal will be something you continue to explore and make changes to over the life of your business – and that is the simple beauty of the system.  You can make those changes yourself as you see what works for your business and what doesn’t.  There’s no coding you have to know.  You can do it quickly and easily and the results will be professional as long as you use high quality images.

The material for Journal is presented to you as one guide and is not divided into parts.  We believe this will make it easier to reference, particularly down the road. Just like you would receive all of the information for a class in a textbook, this guide to your Journal admin is presented in its entirety. Please know you’re not ready for the whole thing yet. You don’t need to know how to do it all now.

Again, baby steps – slow and steady wins the race!

When your site was designed with the Journal theme, we added what we believed to be the core, essential elements.  The rest is just icing on the cake and can be added later down the line when you’re more comfortable navigating and operating your store.
